Wastewater Energy Reduction
Wastewater and water treatment plants need a substantial amount of electrical energy to conduct unit processes and operations. To reduce energy costs, water and wastewater treatment plants must understand their electric utility rates and rate structures. Helio Energy Solutions has helped water and wastewater facilities with their wastewater energy reduction since 2001. There isn't a one-size fits all solution because each Enterprise has their own unique operation. That's why Helio Energy Solutions offers two key service lines.
The Energy Management Frame Work Assessment
On March 28-29, 2012, Helio Energy Solutions participated in the Energy Road Map Summit workshops in Raleigh, NC at The Water Environment Federation. This summit brought together nearly 40 water and energy professionals with experience in designing, implementing, and operating energy projects at wastewater treatment plants. The goal of the summit was to create a “road map” to help plants increase on-site energy production, reduce energy consumption and focus on overall energy management; all with the aim of promoting wastewater energy reduction.
As a result of our work, WEF developed an energy roadmap. The Roadmap is a guide for Water Resource Recovery Facilities (WRRFs) to reach energy neutrality and beyond. It is structured in a series of steps that are arranged in six categories to help water and wastewater utilities plan and implement an energy program. The road map is applicable whether WRRFs choose simply to increase energy efficiency or to build a full-scale distributed generation systems. Categories range from technical needs to organizational aspects, and steps are applicable to all sizes of facilities.

Helio Energy Solutions has successfully engineered, financed, and implemented clean energy projects for our clients. Even after implementation, Helio Energy Solutions helps ongoing operations, maintenance, and management to ensure your energy project successfully reaches the set forth project goals. The process begins with energy analytics. If you have a deep understanding of your energy intensity or need help to develop an energy intensity profile, our consultants can help map out a path to greater energy efficiency.
HelioPower is a member of the Water Environment Federation (WEF) and a member of WEF's Energy Roadmap Steering Committee that was responsible for producing WEF's Energy Roadmap. We've helped numerous water districts around the country develop a better understanding of their energy intensity and an action plan to improve their energy efficiency and overall cost of energy.
